There is something so profound about the memorization of Scripture. I really never feel more in linewith God then when something happens and a specific scripture immediately comes to mind. To be totally honest I never feel more out of line then when somebody say's something and a "that's what she said" joke pops into my mind.
When we memorize Scripture we do not do it for legalistic reasons. We do it so that God's word is written on our heart as we move through this world. So when we respond to life, all that is going through our head is the word of God not a lame line from a song or movie. Quotes die and fade but God's word brings life, energy and hope.
For those of you that think it is too hard to memorize scripture here are a few thoughts:
- It is hard to memorize the book of John. Start with John 3:17
- Read the verse 10 times then close the Bible and say it 10 times.
- Repeat until you have it.
- Memorize verses that speak to you. Verses that inspire you and bring you peace.
- Don't quit if you forget.
