I have had a lot happening lately and it’s starting to come to an end. Rachel has passed 3 or her 4 CPA tests. (All 3 on the first time!) My part time job in the home building industry is also coming to an end. My time has been stretched to say the least.
A few weeks ago I was stressed to the max, burning out fast and simply just not having enough time in the day to get things done. I had to call an audible. Things had to change. I had not been prioritizing things the way I should have. I have learned that simple adjustments can have a huge impact so I started running 30 minutes a day and listening to a sermon a day for two weeks.
God really spoke to me in many ways during those runs but one day was huge. I was listening to a talk by Bill Hybels and his main point was to simply seek God first. Seriously, the whole sermon!
How profound, right? I needed to hear it, and I needed to hear it bad.
I know it seems obvious but it has completely refocused me. I have just been trying to get into the groove of spending time praying in my car before I get out. Before Caroline and I get out the car at school I pray. Not just a “God help me” prayer but a few good minutes of asking God to guide me. Praying for a few minutes before I go to lunch, before I walk in on Rachel at the end of the day.
To paraphrase CS Lewis he says that we need to be reminded more then instructed. That could not have been more true for me the past few weeks.
If you are in a rut, put God first. It’s really that simple.
